About the book
Written by award-winning Aussie author Jane Tara, ‘Around the World in 80 Ways’ has already made a splash, with Jane being interviewed on radio and TV, and Virgin airlines using the book as part of their inflight entertainment.
This is not just another single-use colouring-in book or activity book for kids, but a one-of-a-kind travel book full of thoughtful conversation starters, facts and figures, and activities that just need imagination – not crayons, and encourage kids (and parents) to think about the world around them.
The book is perfect for children aged 6 to 13, but even younger kids are catered for with a chapter written especially for toddlers.
Small enough to fit in a handbag or under the sun visor of a car, the book can be used over and over again, as both a resource for travelling and a source of thought-provoking fun.
How to fundraise
Jane has a limited number of boxes available for schools and community groups.
The books would make perfect gifts any time of year, but are especially good as stocking fillers, and would sell equally well at a community market or Christmas fete or even as an internal fundraiser.
Each box of 112 books is available for $150 upfront, which includes courier fees across Australia (see below for details).
You can set your own selling price. The RRP is $10 per book, making the profit on each box $970, however you can choose a different price to suit your demographic. Even a sale price of $7 per book would make a clear profit of $746.
Things to consider
Book are a great, sugar-free fundraiser and most families go on a holiday during the summer break meaning you have a large target market.
Even if not all books are sold, they are non-perishable, easy to store and can be sold the following year, or would make great prizes for students.
Consider getting a stall at your local community fete or market. Stall holder fees for schools and charity groups are usually waived, and the low price point will make it a popular stocking filler. Consider bringing along holiday themed props such as train or plane toys, a small tent and (pretend) campfire, display the books in a small suitcase or travel trunk, or even bring a small sandpit with a bucket and spade which makes a strong visual statement.
You only need to sell 15 books to make back the full purchase price.
