An article like this may seem a little redundant on Fundraising Mums. People who are reading this probably already donate their time and effort to their children’s school or sports club and are probably well aware of the benefits it brings. It’s easy to roll your eyes when some do-gooder tries to tell you why you should give up your precious spare time, but I’m going to say it anyway – volunteering is good for you (and everyone else)

Time is money.
Your time is worth money to the school, so everything you do at the school is money they don’t have to spend.
2. Know the BigWigs.
You will get to know people at the school better, including teachers, admin and the principal. That can’t hurt.
3. You are one of a kind.
You probably have skills that others in the school community don’t, and everyone has something they can offer.
4. Meet your child’s besties.
You will get to know the other kids and their parents better – and when you consider that they will probably be your child’s peers for the next 10+ years, it’s a pretty smart move.
5. Your kids will love it and be proud.
And they will grow up believing that volunteering and helping others is a natural thing to do.
6. Chain reaction.
People will see you help and are more likely to join in. The more helpers a school has, the less work everyone has to do and no one can afford for the few people who currently help to get fed up and leave.
7. Change the culture.
If you don’t like how things work at your school at the moment, be part of the solution and not the problem: get in there and change the culture.
Why do you volunteer and have you had any unexpected benefits?
