This is a great recipe that would be perfect to make in large batches for any number of fundraising events – you could have a pet stall at your next school fete (and offer free dog washes or vet checks), you could sell jars of doggy treats prior to Christmas, or as part of an awareness campaign for RSPCA or other animal-related charity. You could even sell them at a cake stall as long as they are clearly marked as being dog biscuits (and contain peanuts). Click here for an entire article on pet-themed fundraising events.
This quantity makes around 30 biscuits but you can make more or less depending on the size of the cutter you use. The recipe can easily be doubled but keep in mind that larger quantities are harder to work with and knead.
Present the doggy treats in pretty glass jars with doggy themed covers. They will keep for one week at room temperature, 3 weeks in the fridge and 6 months in the freezer.
Be mindful though that they contain peanuts, which may contravene school nut-free policies.
Ingredients
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 and a ¼ cup hot water
Beaten egg (glaze)
Method
Prepare baking tray with baking paper and pre-heat oven to 180c.
Mix together dry ingredients in a bowl then add peanut butter and hot water.
Mix well – the longer you knead the dough the less sticky it will become, although you can add more flour if it still is very sticky.
On a clean, floured surface roll the dough to approximately ½ cm thickness.
Using cookie cutters, cut biscuits, re-kneading and rolling the dough until it is all used.
Glaze lightly with a beaten egg.
Bake for about 40 minutes and then turn the heat off, leaving the biscuits to cool overnight in the oven (they will go nice and hard).
