Telethon Community Cinemas (WA) offers schools, clubs and charities the opportunity to raise funds with a variety of packages for their outdoor cinemas. By pre-purchasing tickets to a specific movie at a specific location, and then on-selling the tickets to their supporters, groups can not only fundraise for their own cause, but also contribute to Telethon.
Fundraising Idea at a glance:
Product: tickets or movie packages to one of four outdoor cinema locations across Perth
Suitable for: schools, sporting clubs and charities
Profit: a minimum of $10 per ticket sold
What are the Telethon Community Cinemas?
The Telethon Community Cinemas have been operating in Perth for a number of years, raising over $9million for Telethon and other charities. The event is 100% volunteer run, with more than 700 helpers working across the locations each year. They have four outdoor locations across the city including Burswood, Bassendean, Murdoch and Joondalup and a program of new release, classic, family and cult movies showing during an extended season that stretches from November to April.
As they are outdoor cinemas, sessions are ‘moonlight movies’ with a start time of 7.45pm. All venues are catered and licenced or you can bring a picnic (no BYO alcohol).
How can you fundraise with Telethon Community Cinemas?
Fundraising is done by selling tickets or packages to a specific movie at a specific location. Groups pre-purchase tickets or packages to a specific movie and then sell the tickets at a profit.
You must nominate which cinema and which movie you are selling tickets for (with at least one week’s notice) and there are minimum numbers for each package. This means that you can organise a fundraiser at the beginning of the 2020 school year for a movie towards the end of the season (March/April), which also offer Early Bird screening times (6.45pm) as the sun sets earlier.
Other rules and conditions:
You must pre-purchase your tickets, no refunds available for unsold tickets. In the case of weather cancellation the same conditions apply as to normal ticketholders.
You can sell the tickets for any price you like as long as it is above the minimum price set.
Authority to fundraise needs to be provided as part of the booking process.
You must allow take some photos of your event and let the Telethon Community Cinemas share it publicly and also you need to inform them of how much money your event raised.
