Australian shoppers may know Cashrewards as one of the leading online shopping cashback sites, or perhaps as one of the fastest growing companies in Australia, but what you may not know is that they are part of the Pledge 1% global movement – where corporations of all sizes, across the globe, pledge either 1% of their product, their profit, their equity or their time to support not-for-profits within their community.
Cashrewards became a corporate partner of the Starlight Foundation in 2017, pledging to match 1% of cashback redeemed by their thousands of members to the charity known across Australia as one that brightens the lives of sick kids in hospital.
The partnership was kickstarted with a generous $20,000 cheque, and has been followed up, not only with the ongoing pledge of 1%, but with Cashrewards staff regularly donating their time for Starlight Day, visiting Starlight Express Rooms and assisting with other campaigns.
But you have to look hard to find much evidence of this incredible behind-the-scenes support, beyond a steadily growing tally of the number of Starlight children that have been helped by Cashrewards, proudly displayed at the top of the Cashrewards website.
It’s may be because the decision to choose the Starlight Foundation as the recipient of their 1% pledge was a very personal decision of Cashrewards founders, Andrew and Lorica, who saw first-hand the incredible impact the Starlight programs made on sick children, when their own son Sam, spent two years receiving treatment in and out of hospital.
Now two years on, the pledge has so far brightened the lives of almost 3,500 seriously ill children, with Cashrewards aiming to help 10,000 kids by 2020.
How can you help?
Simply by being a part of Cashrewards you are helping the Starlight Foundation. While members continue to receive on average $1,000 in saving every year, the equivalent of 1% of all cashback received by members will be donated to the Starlight Foundation. Every time you shop and earn Cashrewards, you will be helping to support Starlight Children’s Foundation, a small commitment by thousands of Australians today which will have an enormous impact tomorrow.
“Giving back is our lifeblood. Our reason for being. Helping families with the increasing cost of living. Supporting charity with both time and money. We have already given back over $55 million to our members in just over 4 years. With over 500,000 Aussies now saving with Cashrewards our aim is to help over 10,000 sick kids by 2020.“

More about Cashrewards
It’s free to join Cashrewards, and there are over 1,200 participating retailers which refund a percentage of your purchases back, including Woolworths, Good Guys, Amazon, Apple, Chemist Warehouse, Uber Eats and Dan Murphys.
The list includes department stores, clothing and fashion, grocery and alcohol, travel and insurance, sporting and outdoors, utilities and mobiles, luxury brands and much more.
Some shops also have an in-store cashback offer for people who link their Cashrewards account to an eligible Visa credit card and many offer a range of time-limited offers and specials. A partnership with Mastercard will also be following in a few months.
The cashback rate ranges from 0.5% to 40% of your purchase price, and averages around 7%. For example, if a family purchased four new tyres from Beaurepairs for $600, who offer a 7% cashback, the family would receive a cashback of $42 in their account.
New members who sign up to Cashrewards will also receive a $5 bonus when they make their first eligible purchase of $25 or more.
To make sure you never miss an opportunity to earn a cashback, make sure you download the notifier onto your computer, and the Cashrewards app onto your phone, as they let you know if a site you are browsing is a Cashrewards partner, and the % cashback you can expect. It’s important to note that while the cashback amount will usually appear in your account within a few days, it can sometimes take up to three months for that balance to become available for cash withdrawal.

More about the Starlight Foundation
The mission of the Starlight Foundation is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families. They do this with the support of a number of programs, both within hospital (Starlight Express Rooms) and out in the community (wish granting), by disrupting the often unrelenting cycle of pain and fear and offering seriously ill kids the chance to just be kids and have fun.
In 2018 the Starlight Foundation created over 576,000 experiences for sick kids in hospitals and communities across Australia, including granting 540 incredible Starlight Wishes, more than 175,000 visits to a Starlight Express room, plus two brand spanking new Starlight Express Rooms in Perth Children’s Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital. They also help train and support the 160+ Captain Starlights who share the joy in hospitals and remote communities across the country, support the online Livewire program for sick teens and now even fund two PhD scholarships amongst other programs.
