Healthy Footprints is a new Perth-based fundraising business, led by two mums who recognised the need for an alternative, healthy fundraising option.
Although this post is sponsored by one of my advertisers, all opinions are my own, and I think they are great products I want to share with FRM readers.
IN A NUTSHELL
Products: pre-mixes made of raw natural ingredients to make nutritious chocolate delights
Suitable for: Schools, charity groups, sports clubs, all groups
Profit: $5.00 per packet (33%)
THE PRODUCTS
Healthy Footprints offer a unique product – they are delicious and chocolatey, but entirely raw and natural and full of nutritious ingredients (including superfoods) packed with vitamins and minerals with proven benefits for the immune system.
There are three packs available, and while they all taste the same, they each have different purposes. All ingredients are packed fresh, and they are concomitant with current trend for ‘raw foods’ opening up many fun options for marketing.
Date and Nut Delight are for energy and nutrition and include dates, cashews, cacao, sunflower seeds, coconut and cinnamon.
Protein Delight is perfect for a protein boost before or after exercise and contain dates, cashews, cacao, sunflower seeds, coconut, pea protein and cinnamon.
No Nut Delight is lunchbox friendly and contains dates, cacao, coconut, cinnamon and the power of five grains: oats, spelt, quinoa, barley, triticale.
The packs have a shelf life of at least four months and each weigh approximately 400 grams and will make around 15 delights.
To make the delights, you simply tip the ingredients into a food processor or high powered blender, process to your desired consistency and add two tablespoons of water. You can either roll it into balls, or press into a tin and cut into squares. Once made, the delights can be kept for up to two weeks in the fridge.
THE FUNDRAISING PROCESS
Healthy Footprints utilise the tried and true lamington drive method – pre-printed order forms are provided to the school, which each student can then take home and use to sell products. Students record the individual orders and collect the cash payments, or customers can pay via direct debit straight to Healthy Footprints.
After the pre-determined fundraising period (usually 2-3 weeks) all the order forms and money are returned to the school, and then forwarded to Healthy Footprints.
The orders will be collated and within two weeks, the final order – freshly prepared – will be delivered to the school for distribution along with a cheque.
COST AND PROFITS
Each bag sells for $15, with $5.00 being returned to the school, making the profit 33%.
There are no upfront costs to the school and no minimum order. There is also no delivery fee for schools located in the Perth metropolitan area. Please contact Healthy Footprints for postage costs beyond this area.
WORTH MENTIONING
The high price point might prove to be a deterrent for some groups, but the nutritious and raw point of difference will appeal to others. It should also be pointed out that the cost works out to be under 90 cents per delight, which is less than a Freddo but with considerably more nutrition.
This fundraiser would work equally well as door-knock around the neighbourhood, an online fundraiser (advertise through school newsletter or website) or setting up a stall at a fete or local farmers markets. Make sure it is clear to customers what the expected time frame for delivery would be. If you are taking orders at a fete or other event, pre-purchasing some kits and offering (or selling) samples will create a buzz and generate more sales.
Make something special of distribution day, especially if you are nominating a time after school for everyone to come and collect their goodies. You can always order extra bags and have them available on the day for those who forgot to order.
Many schools are focussing on healthy eating options, starting community gardens or running farmers markets. Healthy Footprints complements these messages, and the finished products make healthy but easy-to-reach-for snacks, that are filling and nutritious.
A quote from a recent fundraiser: “Big thanks to Healthy Footprints from Ellenbrook Netball Association! This was a great alternative for a fundraiser for our club this year, instead of selling chocolates & donuts. Not only a healthier option, they were delicious as well. Highly recommend Healthy Footprints for your next fundraiser!”
